Northwest Health to Present Community Seminar: “Hearing Loss and What You Can Do About It”

                      5/14/2026

WitteIf you struggle to hear conversations or frequently need to turn up the TV to hear your favorite show, you’re not alone. Nearly 20% of the world’s population has some degree of hearing loss, and it can be especially frustrating when everyday sounds and conversations start to feel out of reach.

The community is invited to join Northwest Medical Group audiologist Allison Witte, Au.D., for a free, one-hour seminar that will explore hearing loss and practical tips to help improve quality of life. As people age, risk increases, with an estimated 50% of individuals 75 and older experiencing this condition.

“Whether you’re noticing changes in your own hearing or helping a loved one navigate them, this seminar is designed to provide clear, practical guidance you can start using immediately,” Witte said. “We’ll break down what hearing loss can look like day to day and offer simple strategies to help make communication easier.”

The free seminar – “Hearing Loss and What You Can Do About It” – will take place from noon to 1 p.m., May 29, 2026, at Duneland Family YMCA, 215 Roosevelt St., Chesterton. The event will cover:

                      • Common signs and symptoms of hearing loss
                      • Health conditions linked to hearing loss
                      • Understanding tinnitus (ringing in the ears)
                      • Modern treatment options
                      • How hearing aids work and how to do know if you need one

Witte will save time for questions at the end of the event, which is part of the Northwest Health HealthyU series, a wellness program that provides free seminars on various health and wellness topics for the community.

Registration is encouraged for this free community event. To register, visit NWHinfo.com/Hearing. For more information, call 219-262-6446.
