Northwest Health – Starke honored two caregivers in April. Penny Mitchell, R.N., was the recipient of the DAISY award for exceptional nursing and Cheryl Runkle, CNA, was the recipient of the PETALS award for outstanding support professionals.
Mitchell was nominated by a patient who thanked her for her compassionate care during her recent stay. The patient shared that she has “trouble” with needles or injections, and that Mitchell did a wonderful job comforting her. She wrote, “Penny did an amazing job keeping me calm.”
Runkle was nominated by a co-worker who described her as a prompt and caring nursing assistant who always goes above and beyond for her patients in every way. She added that, “Cheryl is always kind and considerate and is a very important asset to our hospital staff.”
“I’d like to congratulate both Penny and Cheryl and thank them for their ongoing dedication to quality care,” Lori Bridegroom, director of nursing at Northwest Health - Starke. “We are proud to have both as part of our Northwest Health team.”
DAISY award recognitions honor the remarkable work nurses do every day – wherever they practice, in whatever role they serve throughout their entire careers. It was established to celebrate the extraordinary compassion that nurses continually provide their patients and families. Nurses may be nominated by employees, patients and hospital visitors.
The PETALS award honors non-nursing professionals for their exceptional skills and support. PETALS award recipients can also be nominated by patients, visitors and employees.
