Caregivers Honored at Northwest Health – La Porte
1/30/2023
Northwest Health – La Porte honored two caregivers in January. Amber Peterson, BSN, RN, was the recipient of the DAISY award for exceptional nursing and Miriam Carpenter, certified nursing assistant, was the recipient of the PETALS award for outstanding support professionals.
Peterson is a nurse on the intermediate care unit at Northwest Health – La Porte. She was nominated by a fellow nurse from another unit who witnessed firsthand the compassionate care, and comforting reassurance that Peterson showed her patient and his family during a very difficult time. She wrote that Peterson continually kept the family informed, answered all of their questions, and made them feel fully supported and validated during this heavy time. She ended her letter by saying, “I wish every nurse was just like Amber Peterson.”
Carpenter was nominated by a fellow nursing assistant who described her as a “team player who always goes above and beyond.” In her letter, she shared how she became ill during her shift and had to unexpectedly leave early. She wrote that Carpenter took charge of the situation, developed a plan of action to ensure all nursing assistant duties were covered, and even checked on her later that evening to ensure she was feeling better. She ended her nomination letter with: “This behavior is Miriam’s every day … she is always kind and always has time for everyone.”
DAISY award recognitions honor the remarkable work nurses do every day – wherever they practice, in whatever role they serve throughout their entire careers. It was established to celebrate the extraordinary compassion that nurses, like Peterson, continually provide their patients and families. Nurses may be nominated by employees, patients and hospital visitors.
The PETALS award honors non-nursing professionals, like Carpenter, for their exceptional skills and support. PETALS award recipients can also be nominated by patients, visitors and employees.
